In short

What does a handyman handle in Fair Haven?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Fair Haven, from a West Long Branch base. Older Fair Haven houses have usually been extended more than once — if you know what was added when, it helps.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

The first permanent house here went up in 1816

Fair Haven’s recorded history starts in the early 1800s, when it was still part of Shrewsbury Township — Jeremiah Chandler built the first permanent dwelling on the riverbank in 1816, and Chandler’s Dock followed by 1850. The borough itself was only incorporated in 1912. That leaves a housing stock with genuinely old bones under a century of later alteration.

The river is why the town is here

The Shrewsbury River gave the settlement its economic base and it still organises the borough — the municipal ramp, Fair Haven Yacht Works and the Shrewsbury River Yacht Club all sit on it. Properties toward the river carry the exposure and, generally, the older buildings; the streets behind are later and drier.

03

One of the Two River boroughs, with the age to match

Fair Haven belongs to the Two River group alongside Rumson, Little Silver and Red Bank, in a part of the county settled from the late 1600s. Register-listed and contributing properties are not unusual, and on those, exterior work can attract a preservation review on top of the construction permit. We check which category a house is in before quoting exterior work.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
