The township will pay to get you off septic
Septic and private well is still normal in parts of Howell, and the township runs an Emergency Septic to Sewer and Water Main Program to move houses off it. Eligible homeowners can get up to $10,000 toward abandoning the septic system and connecting to the sewer main, with no monthly payments and the loan forgiven if they keep title and occupancy for ten years. The township’s $1,500 sewer connection fee is waived if the work is done within the first year of the notice to connect. Priority goes to actively failing systems and low-income households. If you are on septic here, that programme is worth a call before you spend anything.
