In short

What does drywall repair in Monmouth County involve?

We repair drywall and plaster in Monmouth County homes: holes, seam cracks, popped fasteners, corner bead damage and water-stained board. A patch is only as good as its blending, so the finishing and texture matching is most of the work.

01

What the work covers

Anyone can cut a square of board and screw it into a hole. What separates a repair you cannot find from one you notice every time you walk past is what happens afterwards — feathering the compound wide enough, matching whatever texture is on the existing wall, and priming the patch so it does not flash under paint. Cracks are a slightly different problem, because a crack that keeps coming back is reporting movement, and filling it repeatedly without asking why is a maintenance subscription rather than a repair.

The jobs inside this one

  • Seam and corner crack repair
  • Popped nail and screw refixing

02

Signs it is worth a look

None of these means the worst on its own. Together they usually mean it is not going to settle by itself.

  • 01Cracks recurring at the same corner of a door or window
  • 02Fastener heads showing as regular bumps down a wall
  • 03A soft, discoloured or bulging area on a ceiling
  • 04Tape lifting along a seam
  • 05Damaged corner bead on an exposed edge
  • 06Old patches visible through the paint under raking light

How a job runs

The same five steps, whatever the job turns out to be

  1. 01

    You describe it

Call and say what the house is doing. Most of the time the diagnosis starts on that call.

  2. 02

    You get a price

Most jobs we can price on the call once you describe them. Where a job genuinely needs eyes on it first, we say so rather than guess.

  3. 03

    You get the position

What the job is, what it hinges on, whether a permit is involved, and whether it is ours at all.

  4. 04

    The work happens

At a time agreed with you — we answer any hour, seven days a week — with the parts already on the van.

  5. 05

    The room goes back

Swept, cleared and put back the way we found it, minus the fault.

Permits

Every municipality in Monmouth County runs its own construction office under the State Uniform Construction Code, so the answer depends on where you are. Structural work, and anything adding or moving electrical, plumbing or gas, generally needs a permit pulled before the job starts. Like-for-like repairs generally do not. We check before starting.

What moves the price

Estimates are free, and most jobs we can price over the phone once you describe them. What moves the number:

  • Size of the area and whether whole sheets are involved
  • Substrate — modern board, older plaster, or lath and plaster
  • Texture on the existing surface and how it was applied
  • Whether the cause has to be resolved first
  • Number of coats and drying time between them
  • Whether painting is included in the work

03

Drywall Repair — common questions

Why does the same crack keep coming back?

Because something is still moving. Cracks that reappear at the corners of doors and windows are following stress in the structure, and filling them treats the symptom. It is worth establishing whether the movement is seasonal and settled or ongoing before spending money on the finish.

Can texture be matched?

In most cases, yes — knockdown, orange peel and most spray textures can be reproduced closely enough to disappear under paint. Some hand-applied finishes are harder, and where a perfect match is not realistic we say so before starting rather than after.

Do you paint the repair as well?

We can. A patch always needs priming or it flashes through the topcoat, and on a wall with any age on it a single patched area rarely matches the surrounding paint. Taking the repair to a natural break — a corner or a full wall — gives the better result.

5 out of 5 on our Google Business Profile

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
