In short

What does a handyman handle in Keansburg?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Keansburg, from a West Long Branch base. A lot of Keansburg housing started as summer stock — if you know the house was built for the season rather than the year, say so.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

A summer resort that became a year-round town

Keansburg began as a fishing hamlet and grew into a resort for North Jersey and New York day-trippers in the early twentieth century — the amusement park opened in 1904, which makes it older than the municipality around it. Much of the older housing was built for that seasonal trade and converted to year-round use later, which shows up as heating, insulation and plumbing retrofitted into buildings that never expected a winter.

02

Built on former marshland, and it still behaves like it

The resort district went up on former marshland overlooking Sandy Hook Bay. Keansburg was badly hit by Sandy in 2012 and is one of the Monmouth County boroughs where NJDEP’s Blue Acres programme has bought out and demolished repeatedly flooded properties, returning the land to open space as a flood buffer. The borough runs its own flood and stormwater information service for residents.

03

The bayfront and everything behind it

The blocks nearest the bay carry the oldest housing and the flood exposure together. Moving back from the waterfront the ground rises and the housing gets later, so two jobs a few streets apart in Keansburg can be completely different propositions.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
