In short

What does a handyman handle in Keyport?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Keyport, from a West Long Branch base. If the house is one of the older waterfront colonials, mention it — the age changes what is likely behind the wall.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

Erosion and flooding, and the wind direction that causes it

Keyport faces north onto Raritan Bay, which makes it unusually exposed to nor’easters and winter storms — the borough has dealt with years of flooding, water pollution and beach erosion from northeasterly winds specifically. Kean University has been brought in on erosion and pollution research for the borough. On a house here the salt-laden wind is a maintenance factor in its own right, separate from any flood event.

02

Two housing stocks, a century and a half apart

Historic colonial homes from the 1800s line many of the older streets, while the borough’s condominium buildings are relatively new — much of that stock only ten to fifteen years old, built for the views across the bay. There is very little in between. What a job involves here depends almost entirely on which of those two you are standing in.

The harbour is the organising fact

Keyport Harbor and the waterfront blocks around Front Street carry both the oldest housing and the most exposure. Moving inland from the harbour the housing gets newer and the wind and water problems ease off noticeably within a few streets.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
