In short

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

A house here has stood since about 1720

The Parker Homestead sits on eleven acres in Little Silver, its main house built around 1720 and incorporating material from an earlier structure dated to roughly 1667. It is the clearest illustration of what the borough’s older stock actually is: buildings that have been altered, extended and re-serviced by many hands over three centuries, where no two walls were necessarily built the same way.

One of the Two River boroughs

Little Silver belongs to the Two River group with Rumson, Fair Haven, Red Bank and Monmouth Beach, on the south side of the Shrewsbury. Tree-lined streets, generous lots and a housing stock that runs from genuinely historic to postwar without much visual warning between them.

Historic fabric raises the bar on exterior work

With settlement in this part of the county going back to the late 1600s, register-listed and contributing properties are not unusual here. Anything altering the exterior of one of those — windows, doors, porches, siding, roofline — can attract a preservation review alongside the construction permit. Interior and like-for-like repairs generally do not.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
