In short

What does a handyman handle in Monmouth Beach?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Monmouth Beach, from a West Long Branch base. On a raised house the useful question is what plant moved and when — not what year it was built.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

Three feet of freeboard, where the state asks for one

The borough requires three feet of freeboard on structures in the floodplain — a full two feet above what the state asks for. That standard was written into the local ordinance after the record flooding of 2012, and it is the single rule that shapes work on a house here more than any other, because it dictates how high both the structure and its mechanical plant have to sit.

02

Ocean on one side, river on the other, spit in between

The borough occupies a barrier spit with roughly 1.6 miles of Atlantic frontage and the Shrewsbury River along its western edge — dunes and open beach facing one way, bulkheaded riverfront and marsh the other. Much of it falls in V, VE or AE flood zones, which sets both the construction standard and what insurers will accept.

03

Houses that went up in the air, and plant that went with them

Development is mostly single-family and a great deal of it has been elevated since 2012 under the freeboard rule. Raising a house relocates its mechanical plant — heaters, panels and supply runs moved out of their old ground-floor positions — so on a raised property the build year tells you much less than the date of the lift does.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
