In short

What does a handyman handle in Red Bank?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Red Bank, from a West Long Branch base. Tell us roughly when the house went up when you call — in Red Bank that changes the answer more than the job description does.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

Some of the oldest housing stock in the country

Around 35.85% of Red Bank homes were built before 1939 — a share that puts the borough among the oldest housing stock anywhere in the United States. Most of it is Victorian and Colonial built a century or more ago. That brings genuine craftsmanship and it brings the specific problems of age: original supply lines, drain stacks that predate modern venting, and decades of deferred maintenance stacked behind the plaster.

02

A historic district and a low bar for needing a permit

Red Bank issues development permits for essentially all construction other than minor work under the Uniform Construction Code, including changes of use and occupancy as well as interior and exterior work. The borough also has a locally designated historic district on Broad Street, six properties on the National Register and the T. Thomas Fortune House as a National Historic Landmark — so on some addresses there is a preservation layer on top of the ordinary permit.

The riverfront takes surge, the rest of town does not

Storm surge in Red Bank runs up the Navesink and the Swimming River rather than across the whole borough, and the marina and riverfront blocks carry most of it — Sandy put water along the immediate shoreline and riverside buildings have flooded since. A few streets inland the risk profile is completely different, which is why the address matters more here than the town does.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
