In short

What does a handyman handle in Rumson?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Rumson, from a West Long Branch base. If the house is one of the river estates, say so — the age and the scale both change how the job is planned.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

A peninsula with water on both sides

Rumson sits on the peninsula between the Navesink River and Shrewsbury Bay, in the group of Two River towns that also takes in Fair Haven, Little Silver, Red Bank, Monmouth Beach and Atlantic Highlands. Water on two sides means salt air on two sides, and the exposure on a riverfront property is a maintenance factor in its own right, separate from any flood question.

02

Estate houses, and a hundred years of alterations

The housing skews large and varied: early twentieth-century estate houses, Colonial Revival and shingle-style work, updated mid-century houses and modern custom builds, with nineteenth-century estates along the river shores. Wealthy New Yorkers were building here from the early 1800s. On a house with that much history the honest answer is usually that nobody knows what is behind the wall until it is open.

03

Historic register properties are common here

The area’s settlement dates to the late 1600s and it carries a large number of properties on the national historic register. On a listed or contributing property, work that changes what the street or the river sees can pick up a preservation review on top of the ordinary construction permit. Worth establishing which category a house falls into before anything is ordered.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
