One of the earliest ironworks in the colonies was here
The Tinton Manor ironworks was among the first established in this area and one of the earliest anywhere in the colonies — bog iron from the local ground, charcoal from the forests and water power from the falls themselves. The borough grew out of that, which is why a designated historic district sits inside a township that otherwise reads as postwar and modern.
