In short

What does a handyman handle in Union Beach?

Here: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, painting and general repair in Union Beach, from a West Long Branch base. If the house was elevated or rebuilt after Sandy, tell us when — it decides what we are actually looking at.

Local record

Three things on file about houses here

01

Sandy flooded ninety per cent of the borough

Sandy’s storm surge flooded 90% of Union Beach. Sixty structures were destroyed outright and 629 were substantially damaged, leaving 4,500 tons of debris behind. There is almost no property in this borough where the storm is not part of the building’s history, and that is the first thing worth establishing on any job.

02

252 homes demolished, 103 raised

In the recovery the borough demolished over 252 homes and elevated 103 more. That leaves three distinct kinds of property on the same streets: houses raised onto new foundations with their plant relocated upward, houses rebuilt from scratch to current standards, and houses repaired in place. What a job involves depends entirely on which of those you are standing in.

03

Substantial improvement is the rule that bites here

In a borough with this much substantially damaged stock, floodplain rules about substantial improvement are a live constraint rather than a technicality — once work on a building passes a threshold relative to its value, the whole structure can be pulled up to current flood elevation standards. Worth establishing before a job is scoped, not after it has started.

  • I’m so glad to have The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman out and repair my kitchen cabinets. The previous homeowner did not use the correct screws and even missed the studs on some of them. All secure and up to code now. He finished a little early and asked what else he could look at and cleaned out the tub drain too.

  • I called on The Trusty Monmouth County Handyman Services once again. This time I needed drywall repair. The texture that was applied to the ceilings during construction of this house — over time the texture started to release and some of it fell. I tried to repair this myself but had no luck. I’m not permitted to use ladders anymore since I have the tendency to fall off. That’s why I called the Handyman. He fixed all my texture that was falling. He also inspected the rest of my ceiling to check for any cracking so he could prevent another collapse. I have to tell you; this outfit is top notch.
